文武両道 Bunbu Ryōdō
MASTER OF SWORD AND LETTERS

This is an essential theme in the SAMURAI WALK, to be a Renaissance Samurai, one conversant in the ways of the Samurai, as well as in the arts of poetry, calligraphy, tea, and the appreciation of life. It is the philosophical and poetic side of the martial arts. To assist in this study, in collaboration with my good friend and companion on the Path, Hugh Purser, we have released a series of books which combine my prose and calligraphy with Hugh's excellent poetry and graphic design. These books are available for purchase from the links below, in either digital and/or hard copy editions.

We hope that the combination of calligraphy, poetry, and prose, set in an attractive graphic environment, will provide you with food for thought and energy for the Path. As ebooks they can be viewed on an iPad, Smart Phone, or Computer. As hard copies you can take them with you and capture moments of reflection amidst a busy day.

Enjoy the journey!

10 MEANINGS OF WA: Explaining Japan's Inner Strength

This book was created as an ebook to support the Tsunami and Earthquake Relief Fund, and originally made available at www.justgiving.com/Hugh-Purser, where you can still make a donation. Victims of the natural disaster on March 11, 2011 are far from over the crisis. If you are so moved, any donation is a blessing.

This book contains many themes that are relevant to SAMURAI WALK, as well as calligraphy and poetry to illustrate this source of strength. The book is now available as a paperback, as well as a download at the following link:
